Over the past two days I have been continuing my work with Mrs. Olins and understanding her daily expectations and tasks as the Director of Communications and Marketing. I begin each day by reading through approximately thirty blogs that are updated daily from all the Spring at Sage experiences. I have gained a more in depth appreciation for the opportunities the school gives everyone to explore the world and their passions. While reviewing each of these blogs, I continue to find new and fascinating pictures that highlight each experience whether they are global, "glocal", or even here on campus. I am able to use my judgement in finding the collection of pictures that I truly believe will catch the viewers eye. This is a very important concept in both Marketing and Communications.
I wouldn't call my lunch breaks a "break" from learning and gaining more knowledge. Mrs. Olins is always conscientious to include me in her lunch plans. Not only is my mind re-energized, but I am also motivated for my own future. She can go on for days with all of her life-tips, which I enjoy listening to. Mrs. Olins does her best to prepare me for my future and give me plenty of college and career advice. I am utilizing all that she has opened my mind to. She has given me a broader scope prior to leaving and starting my college experience in a couple weeks!
After long hours of hard work, I have finally finished creating the Head of School Blog Book! I have successfully compiled all of Mr. McNeill's blogs from 2013-2014 onto Mixbook. I have gone through hundreds of photos, selecting pictures for the book that not only show relevance to each blog topic but also highlight school's life and architecture. Lastly, I organized and formatted it all onto pages each appealing to the readers eye.
I have gained so much insight of the Communication and Marketing world over a short period of three days. I can not wait until monday when I get the opportunity to explore the O'leary and Partners advertising agency!

Day One
Due to hazardous conditions in Kenya, my original plan of traveling there was sadly cancelled within days of my departure. Fortunately, another opportunity of interning for Torrey Olins, Director of Communications and Marketing at Sage Hill School, opened up for me. While working with her today, I gained an interesting perspective on marketing and advertising for the school I've been attending for the past four years. After grasping an overview of Mrs. Olins' role at Sage, I was really able to understand what her job entails and what factors contribute to the marketing of Sage Hill. Today, I started off by reading through the Spring at Sage blog posts and pulled out pictures that reflected their experiences so far. These photos were later displayed on Facebook, updating everyone who follows the Sage Hill School page.
For purposes of rebuilding the school's website, I shadowed Mrs. Olins in a teleconference with the website provider, Whipple Hill. While learning about some of the latest capabilities for the site, my mind immediately opened to new features they could incorporate to lure in anyone who stumbles upon the site. After the conference, I did my own research on both the Sage website as well as other private school's, and came up with some commentary for improvements. I also reviewed the current Sage Hill infographic and provided feedback regarding further enhancement.
I was introduced to a new social network service called Storify. Storify enables a user to create stories or news feeds by linking together posts from media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I spent some time on this site learning about it's functions and wondering if it will be useful for Sage events. More discussion about this network will be taking place in the next few days.
A major project I was given today, that will be worked on throughout my time as an intern, is creating the Head of School Blog book. This book will include all of Mr. McNeill's 2013-2014 blog posts along with many pictures highlighting this past year. I went through the photos taken at main events over the year and chose the ones that were most relevant to Mr. McNeill's blog posts. I decided use Mixbook to create this book, and had fun exploring the features the program offers.
I look forward to working more with Mrs. Olins and I am thrilled to have been given this amazing opportunity so last minute!
